The money raised at tonight's concert will go to support the Rukungiri Modern Primary School in south-west Uganda.
The school was founded by John and Alice Tumusiime and educates approximately 800 primary school children usually aged six to thirteen. They have to complete seven years primary education so late starters will be older. They have also built a Nursery School which caters for approximately 250 three to six year olds plus a Vocational Training Centre for about 150 youngsters aged fourteen years and over.
The school is supported by the Rukungiri Orphan Partnership established by Bill and Judy Cave who live in Wales. They also have teams from Mission Direct who visit regularly and who have helped with a lot of the construction work at the school over the years. The school receives no state funding but the school has grown and achieves very good results for the children. This is the result of the hard work and dedication of Alice and John, the teachers and those groups that support them with sponsorships.
Jo Jacobs and Serena Emberley went to Uganda with a party in 2009 organised by Anne Hope (St Michael's Beccles), herself a past teacher in Uganda who knew Alice as a student and they had the most wonderful experience visiting the school and have been involved in supporting it since. It is hoped to return in October this year and any money raised will be taken to purchase equipment the school needs. If for any reason the trip does not go ahead the money will be sent to the school via the Rukungiri Orphan Partnership.
Thank you all for your support.
